Every year, San Diego Christian Foundation comes up to Palomar for two different weeks of youth camp, and every year they have a talent show.  This year’s talent show was particularly remarkable—and not necessarily because this group of youth were more talented than their predecessors.

Bill Stephenson, Associate Director at Palomar, witnessed firsthand the miracle that was unveiled at this year’s SDCF talent show.  Taking a seat in the back of the chapel where the talent show was being held, Bill watched as one by one kids took to the stage to display their gifts—or at least aspirations.  It wasn’t long before the star of the night stepped forward.

She was a quiet girl, obviously shy and nervous, and everyone who knew her waited with uncertainty, wondering what she might do.  She took hold of the microphone and then, over and again, began speaking to the side of her.  Only, no one was there.  A gentleman seated in front of Bill leaned back and explained, “She’s autistic.”

At this point, with the crowd as anxious and unsettled as the young performer, everyone began to wonder how this performance would conclude.  No one could have guessed what God was going to do.

Suddenly, with perfect sureness and clarity, the girl began to sing aloud the lyrics to “I Can Only Imagine.”  Bill noted later that the singing was actually pretty terrible, but that didn’t stop the audience from arising as one in a standing ovation.  The gentleman in front of Bill turned around again, this time with a lump in his throat.

“She hasn’t spoken in six months,” he said, “and now she’s up front singing.  All because she came to camp.”  Everyone in the room was either in tears or fighting them.  They had just witnessed a miracle.

Here at Palomar Christian Conference Center, through the most unlikely person and in the most unlikely way, God revealed His miraculous power.  We proclaim that the Lord our God continues to do great things, and we’re humbled and privileged to bear witness to His working here at Palomar.  May the Name of the Lord be praised!
