Summer Staffing

NL_SummerStaff09

Twenty new summer staff arrived in the middle of June.  We are delighted to have them with us and look forward to serving and fellowshipping with them in the coming weeks.   Several of these young people are returning from previous years.  It is indeed a joy to see their growth in the Lord and catch up on where and how He has been teaching and leading them. They are a vital part of this ministry. We are grateful to the Lord for their servant hearts.

Morrish Family

NL_KenMorrish

God has blessed PCCC by having Ken and Peggy Morrish and their girls be a part of His family and ministry here.  It was with fond affection that we bid them farewell on July 19th:  God has moved them on to a new adventure with another branch of His family in Ontario, Canada.

Ken and Peggy were brought on staff in 1997 by Peggy’s brother, Steve Ewert.  Ken contributed his plumbing and construction experience, as well as his skills in architectural drawing.  In 2006, Ken became  Associate Director of Site and Facilities, adding Program to his areas of responsibility.  God has been growing and refining Ken over the last 3 years especially, preparing him for a new role.

Peggy has served in various roles over the years, including Food Services Worker, Guest Group Coordinator, and Gift Store Manager.  She has also helped with Pie Café and registration for Horse Camp.  We have all been blessed by her gracious hospitality to the staff—especially the Christmas Tea she hosts each year for the Palomar ladies!

It was with mixed feelings that we received the news that Ken had accepted the position of General Manager at Guelph Bible Camp in Ontario.  Ken and Peggy have been hired as a couple, and Peggy will manage Guest Services and volunteers.  We are sad to see the Morrish family go, but rejoice with them in their new calling and adventure.   Both Ken and Peggy are confident in God’s leading.  Peggy summed it up this way:  “It’s sad to think about leaving after so many years, but it’s just so exciting to see how God has led us and to know that we are in the center of His will.”

We are grateful to the Lord for the Morrish family’s service in their season here at PCCC. We will miss them, and pray for them all our Lord’s best as they follow His calling to Canada.

Newlyweds

lane_hilda1

Newlyweds, Lane and Hilda Yule… How did they meet?  Lane had been praying for a long time for a godly wife. About 7 years ago, Hilda’s son Mike started working at the Christian Conference Center.  Every once in a while she would visit and she caught Lane’s eye.  Hilda loves Palomar and two years ago started working in the kitchen.  You know what they say, “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach!”  Lane had a chance to get to know her and her cooking!  Lane said, “She has a lot of kids (one girl and 4 boys) and I didn’t know if she would have time for me but decided to ask her to dinner”.  They dated and after about a year, he asked her to marry him, she said “YES “and the rest is history!  With Lane’s two sons, their seven grown kids range in age from 18 to 32.  Lane and Hilda just moved into a home on Crestline with the perfect set up for Lane’s sister, Lynda, to live with them too.  “Hilda is the nicest person who loves the Lord. That lady can cook anything and I’m very blessed to have met her.”

aj_refrigerator

AJ Bemrose works on installing a new floor in our walk-in refrigerator. The aging  floor had to be replaced after years of leaking into to the meeting room directly below (Ponderosa). The refrigerator walls were originally built over a linoleum floor; as of this week we now have a professionally installed insulated floor. Thank you Facilities Team!

Summer Camps

staff2

We look forward each year to hosting the many youth who come to Palomar for their summer camp experience. Over 2,000 youth enjoyed summer camp at Palomar last year.  Some of these came with their church youth group, and many came as part of large regional programmed camps that we host.  A total of 122 girls attended Horse Camp  and 18 young men attend our Boy’s Outdoor Adventure CampHundreds of  these young people made commitments to Christ, many for the first time. All were challenged to grow in their walk with the Lord.

We also look forward to new and returning summer staff who join in the ministry.

This is a great ministry opportunity to build into the lives of these young people as we colabor beside them.

staff

We will be expanding  all our staff support in each of our departments, including Food Service, Accomodations, Guest Services, and both the Horse Camp and Outdoor Adventure Camp. If you or someone you know is interested in being a part of our summer ministry staff, please see our  Employment Page.
